The setting for this restaurant in Victoria’s Gippsland region is unbelievably beautiful, nestled as it is amongst giant old oak and mountain ash trees. Located in a century-old farmhouse that oozes rustic charm, the restaurant serves a modern Australian menu focused squarely on the region’s wonderful produce. Owner/chef John Snelling was formerly head chef at acclaimed Melbourne restaurant Café di Stasio. After a complimentary starter of sourdough bread with locally produced olives and olive oil, there is an extensive menu to choose from, with all the pasta, risotto and vegetarian dishes available in both entrée and main sizes. The handmade pasta with tortellini filled with Tarago Shadows of Blue cheese and apple is a delicious prelude to the Free Range Jindi Pig pork cutlets that are coated in bread and parmesan crumbs and served with a rosemary jus. Dessert is not just one but two whole peaches chargrilled and oven baked in Frangelico syrup, a sweet finale that vies for attention against other treats such as honey and triple cream pannacotta, and chestnut torte. The extensive wine list has an excellent selection of local wines, our party more than happy with the Kouark Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that came highly recommended by locals in the know.
