Everything about this winery restaurant just outside of Geelong speaks class, from the walls of glass overlooking white roses, lavender bushes and vineyard, to the contemporary maroon and purple tones, the polished waiting staff and the fine food. Comfortable chairs and a relaxed ambience invite guests to settle in for the degustation menu of a set three entrees followed by a choice of main and dessert. Our schedule calls for us to skip the entrees, but our friendly waiter brings a complimentary appetiser anyway - a single tiger prawn with cauliflower, saffron and hazelnut dressing artfully arranged on a white ceramic spoon. The mains are perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, the roast chicken with tomato and bread salad, basil and red wine dressing winning over the young lad, and mum very satisfied indeed with the braised belly of pork with pureed sweet potato and minted cabbage salad. A herb and vegetable garden just outside the back door reassures us of the freshness of the ingredients. Desserts such as mango semifreddo with campari syrup and orange sorbet prove irresistible, and after a brief detour to the tasting room to stock up on the fine Pettavel wines, we are on our way.
