Non-alcoholic beer range, Nort, continues to challenge expectations with its latest release: a rich, full-flavoured stout that tastes every bit as good as we stout lovers would like it to be.
Nort is produced by independently owned, Australian brewery Modus, which started on Sydney‘s Northern Beaches more than a decade ago before relocating its brewing operation to Newcastle.
We visited it in Mona Vale soon after founders Jaz and Grant Wearin started the business, and it’s been interesting watching their journey as they’ve transitioned away from the hoppier styles they started with to the full gamut of flavour profiles.
This latest release taps into two fast-growing markets, the demand for low and no-alcohol products, and the demand for stout.
Fastest-growing beer style
Non-alcoholic beer just notched its 11th consecutive year of growth, and according to Endeavour Group’s State of the Hops Report 2026, stout is now the fastest-growing beer style in the country. That latest news is music to our ears as here at Food Wine Travel we do love a glass of stout.
Nort, by all accounts, is Australia’s first bottled non-alcoholic stout. It’s surprisingly uncompromising on taste, delivering everything you might love about a classic stout without the alcohol.
The flavour profile is generous with roasted malt, dark chocolate and freshly brewed coffee flavours and the finish is smooth and satisfyingly toasty.
You can buy it from Dan Murphy’s nationwide and might also find it in some independent retailers. It comes in a 6-pack of 330ml bottles for $19.99 and a case of 24 for $59.99.
