Instead of giving flowers on Mother’s Day, consider giving mum a bottle of the exquisitely beautiful Cote des Roses.
It’s a French Rosé, from the Languedoc region which produces many fine examples of Rosé, but what sets this one apart is the bottle. With a glass stopper and shaped like a blooming rose, it’s a subtle nod to a bouquet, reimagined in the most beautiful way.
I suspect many empty Cote des Roses bottles have gone on to become water bottles or vases, such is the bottle’s elegance. That’s not to say the wine isn’t worthy of attention.
Made by French winemaker Gérard Bertrand, whose extensive family vineyard holdings are cultivated biodynamically, this easy-drinking blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault is light and refreshing.
It is soft and dry, with a lovely balance of fruit and acidity, showing notes of roses and red summer berries, with a hint of grapefruit.
Best served chilled, it could be enjoyed as an aperitif with seafood and mildly spiced dishes. It is perfect for a picnic or a long, relaxed brunch or lunch, and especially so on Mother’s Day.
Available widely in bottle shops for around $22, Cote des Roses Rosé is modestly priced for the joy it will bring. Making it your love language will make someone very happy, I promise.
