Chandon 2009 Late Disgorged Rosé

Wine Pick: Yalumba Samuel's Collection 2017 Barossa Grenache Shiraz Mataro.

Chandon 2009 Late Disgorged Rosé, $115

This is a wine for lovers – a lover you want to impress, perhaps, or a lover of beautiful sparkling Rosé (or both?) With berry and watermelon aromas and a gorgeous pale rose colour, it seduces with layers of white peach, nougat and delicate citrus notes. Amazingly, after more than eight years on lees, it is still vibrant and fresh, and a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that it is Late Disgorged. The exposure to less oxygen and more yeast contact than a sparkling wine disgorged earlier and stored for a similar amount of time results in a wine with both maturity and youthful vitality. And isn’t that what all lovers are seeking?
