William Patrick 2016 Barossa Shiraz

Wine Pick: Kaesler 2016 The Bogan, a full-bodied Barossa Shiraz.

William Patrick 2016 Barossa Shiraz, $50

You can smell the history and you can most certainly taste the history that went into this rich and vibrant Barossa Shiraz. It’s the flagship in a new range from Auld Family Wines which pays homage to South Australia and a family winemaking history dating back to the mid-1800s.

William Patrick Auld, who died in 1912, carried on the work of his pioneering father for many years before setting up a wine and spirit merchant business in Adelaide which he named WP Auld & Sons. Jock and Sam Auld have created a fitting tribute to their ancestor with this generous and inviting wine.

Matured in American and French oak for 11 months, it has classic Barossa notes of plum, licorice and dark chocolate with a lovely long finish. It would go beautifully with a thick, juicy steak, of course, but really any hearty dish would sing from the same songbook.
