We hear a lot about how many ‘standard drinks’ we can consume without going over the limit, but what is a standard drink?

It’s something that a lot of consumers have trouble understanding – perhaps not surprisingly when beer can range from anywhere between 0.7 to 1.5 standard drinks per serve and even more if you are drinking pints at the pub.

According to preventative health expert Dr Ross Walker, a standard drink is exactly 12.5mL or 10g of pure alcohol (regardless of the beverage) and it takes the average person about an hour for the body to metabolise that amount of alcohol out of their blood stream.

This means that many well-meaning and responsible drinkers who have one to two drinks in a night may actually be consuming two to four standard drinks. Confusing, right?

Therein lies the thinking behind One, a thirst-quenching lager that serves exactly one standard drink in every can.

Naturally brewed without additives or preservatives, One Classic Lager comes in a 500ml can, which is up to 50 per cent more beer than many other brands – prolonging the enjoyment of cracking open a refreshing and full-flavoured beer, while still drinking responsibly. It also has fewer calories than many other brands.

If you’re trying to keep track of your drinking, this is One beer you can count on. Available at BWS and Dan Murphy’s nationwide: $14.99 for a 6-pack.
