Who would have thought Sydney’s Northern Beaches were home to a flourishing craft beer scene? Yes, it’s a hip, happening place as you can see by this mural that greeted us at Modus Operandi, a brew pub in Mona Vale that not only makes a great line-up of beer but also turns out some excellent casual fare including a knockout burger and some of the best chips we’ve tasted (done in beer batter of course). It was one of three breweries we visited with Dave’s Brewery Tours, which is not all about drinking as much as you can (although I’m pretty sure we tasted 16 beers) but rather about getting a great introduction to the craft of beer-making and an insight into the wonderful diversity of beer that is now being made in Sydney. Watch out for more posts about the tour in coming weeks.
