Calling all gin lovers! Let me tell you about the Garden Street Gin Club, a subscription-based service that delivers small-batch Australian-made gins to your door.
The business is the brainchild of partners Josh Robinson and Lauren Smith who are on a mission to revolutionize the way Aussies enjoy and explore the world of gin. Their curated selection of premium craft gins is delivered every one or two months, depending on your preference. Subscriptions are flexible, allowing members to cancel or skip a delivery at any time.
Each subscription box costs $99 and showcases a different full-sized 700ml bottle of craft gin along with a magazine, gift and, specially chosen to match the gin, two tonic waters, snacks and garnishes. The gins are sourced from distilleries around Australia and the boxes are beautifully packaged so that they are lovely enough to give as a gift.
We had the privilege of tasting the High Country Gin which subscribers received in August, and what a treat it was, with the taste of Australia in every glass. Produced by Backwoods Distilling Co. in Yackandandah, Victoria, this dry-style gin showcases native botanicals such as wattleseed, strawberry gum, lemon myrtle, pepperberry, and peppermint gum.
It’s a gold medal winner, clinching the trophy for Champion Victorian Distiller at this year’s Melbourne Royal Australian Distilled Spirits Awards, the only awards endorsed by the Australian Distilling Association. (Backwoods’ Salted Lime Gin also took home a gold medal.)
Another wonderful drop that subscribers received this year was Gallivanter Gin, a full-flavoured, juniper-forward gin made in Ballarat by Itinerant Spirits. It balances earthy spice and zesty citrus notes with hand-foraged native botanicals such as roasted wattleseed and lemon drop wax flower, the latter offering a creamy lemon palate.
The club is a great way of discovering new flavours and expanding your gin horizons. On joining, subscribers receive a welcome pack with two Plumm stemmed gin glasses, two coasters and a jigger. Along the way, you’ll also receive invitations to online gin masterclasses, giveaways, recipes and members-only releases.
