Cape Byron Distillery is set amongst the lush rainforests of the Byron Bay hinterland. Located on a 95-acre macadamia farm, it is home to the much-loved Brookie’s Gin. The cellar door provides guided tours of both the rainforest and the distillery, with gin tastings and cocktails served at the bar and on a balcony overlooking the property.

If you’ve visited the distillery, there’s a good chance you’ve enjoyed its signature G&T garnished with native finger lime. Eddie Brook, co-founder of Brookie’s Gin, says it’s so popular they’ve decided to bottle the flavours of the rainforest so that people everywhere can enjoy it.

Brookie’s Gin & Tonic with Native Finger Lime is a ready-to-drink premium product. 100% natural, it has only 2.4 grams of sugar per 100ml, around half the sugar of leading gin premix brands. “For a space (in the market) renowned for loads of sugar and fake flavours, we wanted to change the game and bring an unrivalled level of quality and taste,” Eddie said. “We like to think we’ve created the Goldilocks of G&Ts – not too sweet, not too dry, but a little sipper that’s just right.”

Refreshing and delicate, the G&T is made with Brookie’s Dry Gin distilled with 17 native ingredients including macadamias, Byron Sunrise finger limes and native raspberries. Finger lime is native to the subtropical rainforest of northern NSW where the distillery is located. Its caviar-like pearls burst with a subtle sweetness and citrus-led acidity, making it the perfect complement to Brookie’s gin.

Further showcasing native ingredients and local botanicals, Cape Byron Distillery recently released a Slow Gin Spritz made with Brookie’s Davidson Plum Gin. Like the G&T, Brookie’s Native Plum Gin Spritz with Mint & Strawberry is 100% natural.

Pale pink in colour with a hint of cloudiness, it has flavours of plum with hints of summer berries and garden mint. Davidson plum is also indigenous to the rainforest of Byron Bay.

Both products come in 275 ml bottles. The Gin & Tonic is 5.6% ABV (about 1.2 standard drinks), while the Native Plum Gin Spritz is 4.8% ABV (1 standard drink). They are available from retailers and Cape Byron Distillery for $29 for a four-pack or $99 for 16 bottles.

This is not a sponsored post but we were sent samples of the drinks to try.
