Cool Drink Ideas For Mother’s Day

Cool drink ideas for Mother's Day

Looking for some Mother’s Day gift suggestions? We’ve put together some of our best wine and drink recommendations which we know Mum will love.

A Cocktail Just Like Mum

Sydney’s Sofitel Darling Harbour hotel has created a special Mother’s Day Cocktail called Just Like Mum, and while you might not be able to enjoy it at the bar right now, you can replicate it at home using the recipe that the hotel has kindly shared.

Sofitel Darling Harbour cocktail, Just Like Mum.

Made by resident mixologist Jarrod Senior, this elegant, floral, bubbly cocktail combines 20ml of St Germain Elderflower Liqueur with 60ml Yuzu Syrup (or marmalade), a splash of Peychauds bitters and a splash of lemon juice. Put the whole lot in a shaker and shake, shake, shake. Top with 60ml of bubbles.

Jarred’s inspiration was to mix the sweetness of the syrup, with the warmth of the elderflower and the class of champagne … Just Like Mum.

Wicks Estate 2015 Pamela, $30

Wicks-Pamela-Sparkling-Wine

A classy-looking bottle of bubbles always goes down a treat. Brothers Simon and Tim Wicks, from Adelaide Hills winery Wicks Estate, named their sparkling wine Pamela after their mum, in recognition of “all the years she dedicated to us”. Pure class. You can read our review of it here.

Chandon 2016 Yarra Valley Cuvée, $42

If salmon is on the menu for Mother’s Day lunch or dinner (and, heck, even if it’s not!) pop the cork on this Chandon Yarra Valley Cuvée that we recently tasted. Enjoy it with Salmon rillettes with Yarra Valley caviar for a sumptuous feast.

Eileen Hardy 2017 Chardonnay, $118

Eileen Hardy was the matriarch of the Hardy winemaking family. “… an indomitable spirit and the first lady of Australian wine, her love of life still echoes through every Hardys wine and provides the inspiration to be the best,” says the Hardy website.

Her name is given to Hardys’ flagship Chardonnay, an outstanding wine that would be much appreciated by a true Chardonnay aficionado (that’s me, I say, nodding to the kids). See what we had to say about it here.

Kick Up Your Heels With Flora Dora

Greenall’s Wild Berry Gin with soda water.

Pink gin is hugely popular and one of the things we love about Greenall’s pink gin is that it doesn’t have added sugar. Greenall’s Wild Berry Gin has blackberries and raspberries rounding out the juniper notes, providing a beautiful pink colour. We love it with soda water or in this bright and cheerful Flora Dora cocktail, and we think your mum will love it too.
